Just a thought, but John Wesley (one of the first ministers of national stature to preach against slavery in England) was child #15 of his parents' 19. The Christian preachers of England, including Wesley, may be justly credited with ending slavery peacefully whereas in America, it ended only with a great war and much loss of life. You're free to disagree with the Duggars' curious life choices, but we need to remember that every human being made in the image of God has the potential to do the works of God and change the world. Again, just a thought.

I totally agree with both of these commments. I have had issues with this for years. I was unfortunately only able to have 1 child due to cancer, so I'm sure I am a bit biased, but I have always gotten slightly nervous with the thought of more than 2.

Unfortunately, I have been shocked at the responses I have gotten from the few people I have chosen to speak to about this. It seems I may be in the minority of thinking this is irresponsible to the planet, society but ost importantly the existing child Duggars.

I just read on their own website that they practice the "buddy system" where and older child is assigned to be the primary caregiver of a younger child. That's terrible.

And as for the "debt free" house they built: according to the website, they built the frame structure (with a small amount of help from friends) but the electrical, plumbing, appliances, painting, decor and even the fully stocked pantry was provided free of charge by the Discovery network and Corporate Sponsers. That is not taking care of your own family without assistance in my book!

My 1 child and my husband both have disabilities, and I am the only money maker in my family. I go to work every day and work hard (even through Chemo) to support myself and those I am responsible for. I don't see any corporate sponsers jumping up to help me even though these issues are nothing I caused myself! It was their choice to have so many children, they should not have been provided with so much donations. And people shouldn't be under the impression that they provided all that to their kids with no assistance!

There are millions out there who could use assistance everyday due to situations outside of their control, but don't get it, I guess its because its not a spectacle worthy of a tabloidesque reality show.

Thanks for providing me an outlet to get these thoughts out somewhere.

That looks just like the carved wooden "captain" in the foyer at Captain Joe's and creeps me out every time we eat there, because out of the corner of your eye, it looks like a real man sitting there staring at you.

That appears to be a Marine Corps officer's cover. He should not be allowed to wear that with that outfit.

I am weighing in on the Duggars since they have a new People magazine cover. While it's their choice to have as many children as they want to, I agree with you that at this point, it's completely irresponsible. The doctors have already told Mrs. Duggar that her latest pregnancy complications were probably due to her advanced age and the fact that she's already had 18 previous pregnancies. Baby Josie will probably survive, but being born at 24 weeks puts her at a very high risk for developmental and cognitive delays/problems for the rest of her life. While premature births do happen, often at no fault of the mother's, the Duggars are continuing to say they want more children. They clearly are not taking any wisdom away from the life-threatening situation their youngest daughter is in. If Mrs. Duggar has another pregnancy, the baby is almost assured the same outcome as baby Josie has suffered, if not worse.
My other problem with them is also that the older kids do seem to be raising the younger ones. Mr. and Mrs. Duggar have clearly had more children than they themselves are able to care for, and the responsibility of rearing the younger children should not be foisted off on the older kids, who don't have a say about their parents' lifestyle. Curious how much homeschooling, discipline, moral instruction, and actual meaningful parenting, etc. is actually going on behind the scenes when the TLC producers leave. It can't be much. As a mom with ONE child, I can attest to the fact that properly caring for her, disciplining her when she needs it, and taking the time to be a MOM (reading stories, baking cupcakes, etc.) takes hours each day. There is no possible way Mrs. Duggar is able to actually be a MOM when her kids need her because there aren't enough hours in the day. It does make you wonder...what is their real point? They're famous for having a lot of kids so are they continuing to have more kids just to add drama to their reality TV show? I would also be curious to know how they're going to pay for Baby Josie's NICU bills. She's been in the NICU for two months. That bill is likely in the millions of dollars.
